I can vividly remember reading books in my childhood filled with such joy and possibility:

“The Little Engine that Could” by Watty Piper

“Green Eggs and Ham” by Dr. Suess and

“Happiness is a Warm Puppy” by Charles M. Schultz

Oh my!!   What great lessons from those stories that can benefit the adult.    Not only did the books place positive thoughts in our minds, but we were also able to think like a child of opportunities, to try new things and to enjoy those little things already in our lives.

“The Little Engine that Could” – not only did no one believe the little engine could transport a load of toys, the engine did not believe he could.  But once he got started going up the hill, he started repeating a mantra, “I Think I Can”.  He said this over and over and he eventually believed it.  Do we speak possibilities to ourselves.  Do we shut ourselves down before we get started?  The secret here is to start the project/plan and speak possibilities into our lives.

“Green Eggs and Ham”, I don’t like something I have not tried!!  I don’t like it so much; I am doing a lot of rhyming!!  I don’t like trying something new with certain animals, in particular locations or in adverse conditions, I never tried something new.  Soo, guess what?  Try it!  Experience it and I might like it.  As adults, we seem so unwilling to travel, eat new foods, learn about other people and their cultures.  But if we do, we just may enjoy it. Get out there and enjoy life.

“Happiness is a Warm Puppy” – Charlie Brown enjoyed having a puppy named Snoopy.  It brought him so much joy.  He did not complain about the puppy’s inability to be housebroken or need to be walked in inclement weather.  He just enjoyed the happiness of his puppy.   We need to enjoy the little things already in our lives.

Have you forgotten how to daydream like a child?  Do you still think about what you want to be when you grow up?  Do you feel stuck? If you need help with establishing your vision, let’s talk.

Be a child.
