Why does Living Large have negative connotations? Does it mean we should not live a life for which we are not worthy? Living above our means? Getting ahead of ourselves? I have heard others say Dream Big. Make Big Plans. Eat the cake and take the trip!!
I have always erred on the side of caution: don’t get too big. Save money for a rainy day. Don’t dare to dream of a larger house or more luxurious car. Something catastrophic MIGHT happen and I will not be prepared.
Have you spent more time planning and budgeting for your funeral? We have life insurance policies to ensure our family will not have to take on the cost of a funeral. And guess what, it’s going to be a great funeral. There will be a processional and recessional. There will be musical solos and selections. There will be many speakers. The photos of memorable times will be shared in a large publication. Your favorite hymns will be sung. But guess what, you will not be there to enjoy all the hoopla celebrating your life. In fact, it’s called “Celebration of Life” or “Homegoing Celebration”.
How many times in your life have you had any celebration up to the cost level of a funeral? We don’t Live Large. But we do Die Large. One of my mentors from my hometown chose to not have a funeral. She wanted her family to enjoy dinner privately.
Do you set aside funds (Budget) for enjoying life? Plan for your life and fund it just like you plan for your death. Get your flowers now!! Eat the cake! Take the trip.
