Money Memories

It is important to ensure all I do is transparent – to myself, to my clients, to my family and friends.  Coaching in the financial arena means discussing the very thing we try to avoid discussing – Money.   Money is one of those touchy subjects which has proven to destroy individuals, families, countries, etc.   

Think back on conversations about money when you were a child.  Did you learn to equate money with opportunity and abundance or did you dread hearing those conversations around the money dynamics of a family.  Money discussions were not always pleasant, and I learned to bring that same mindset to my adult life.  Money equaled security.    I found this did not ring true for others.  

How do you view money?  Do you think in terms of scarcity or abundance? In the book “Taming your Gremlins” by Rick Carson, he asks the reader to draw a floor plan of their childhood home and then think on which room the conversation around money was had in that home.  Was it at the dinner table?  Was it at the kitchen table.  Was it positive or negative.  Be watchful on how your feelings of money impact the decisions you are making today.
